CATHEDRAL OF SAINT JOHN THE THEOLOGIAN Tenafly New Jersey This project involved the reconfiguration, expansion and refurbishing of the existing fellowship hall at the largest Greek Orthodox Church serving the New York City area. The project includes accessibility improvements, bathroom relocation and renovations, new walls and fenestration, movable interior walls, new suspended ceilings and lighting and the addition of a pre-function/club room with renovated lobby entrance.
We won the design competition for this job and were hired to prepare preliminary design drawings, renderings and a budget to be used in the church's fundraising efforts. Our concept was to move the restrooms from behind the front facade so that we could expand the fellowship hall and open up the spaces to natural light and views to the outside with doors leading out to a raised garden terrace. We proposed a collapsible stage and movable walls to allow for greater flexibility in the use of the hall for larger events, performances and/or receptions.
